It will be a long road to trial for Sean “Diddy” Combs: On Tuesday (Sept 17) a federal judge denied his effort to be free until his trial on sex trafficking and other charges. The disgraced mogul entered a not guilty plea and despite his lawyers’ offer for a $50 million bond and in-home detention, it appears the 54-year-old will remain in custody until trial.

The fallen music mogul was arrested on September 16 at a luxury Manhattan hotel. Now charged with sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution, he now faces the very real possibility of serving out the rest of his life in prison.

“Simply put, he is a serial abuser and a serial obstructor,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson said of Combs in the courtroom Tuesday.

Damian Williams, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York held a press conference yesterday centered around the indictment and details of the allegations.
His racketeering conspiracy charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, and the sex trafficking charge also carries a maximum sentence of life in prison in addition to a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years.
According to Williams, Diddy used his power and financial resources to not only threaten his victims but virtually anyone who dared to speak out against his actions. In addition, Williams detailed the weapons confiscated and noted that, while Diddy is currently the only defendant in this case, he could not rule out the possibility that other names may be called to face charges.
A trial date for Combs has yet to be scheduled.
