Raleigh police are investigating another car hit by gunfire Thursday morning near Interstate 40, marking the seventh such incident in the area this week.

Around 8:50 a.m., officers responded to shots fired into a white Toyota Camry on Trailwood Drive, near University Suites apartments. Although no injuries were reported, the car had visible bullet damage to the driver’s side door, with shattered glass on the road. The car’s owner told WRAL News that he was leaving for work when the bullet struck his vehicle.

North Carolina State University Police have issued a safety alert and are assisting in the search for a shooter near Gorman Street. While a black SUV was reportedly stopped, no details on a suspect are available.

This shooting follows a string of similar incidents this week along I-40, with six previous incidents reported, including four on Wednesday morning. On Monday, a woman was shot in the leg on I-40 near Chapel Hill Road. Centennial Campus Middle School at NC State University was placed on a code yellow lockdown as a precaution.

Police are investigating potential connections among the shootings and are urging anyone with information to contact the Raleigh Police Department at 919-996-3335.
