Shaboozey is making waves in both the country and the hip hop music worlds, as his breakout hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has officially tied the record for the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The track, which has spent 19 weeks atop the chart, now shares the record with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” which held the top spot for the same impressive stretch in 2019.

Shaboozey, known for his unique fusion of country and rap, took to social media to express his awe at the achievement.

“The universe really does work in mysterious ways,” he tweeted. “You never know how a story will unfold unless you keep going and trust the author; thank you always.”

The track, which samples J-Kwon’s early-2000s hip-hop anthem “Tipsy,” has not only dominated the Hot 100 but also led the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for 23 consecutive weeks.

This hit has earned Shaboozey three Grammy nominations, including Song of the Year, Best Country Song, and Best Country Solo Performance. In addition, he has received nods for Best New Artist and Best Melodic Rap Performance for his feature on Beyoncé’s “Spaghetti.”

Shaboozey’s rapid rise to fame began in earnest with his appearance on the track “Cowboy Carter,” which propelled his career to new heights. His social media following exploded, and his streaming numbers skyrocketed after the release of the single in March.

In fact, his country-rap anthem “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” dethroned Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” from the No. 1 spot on the Hot Country chart in July, marking the first time in Billboard history that two Black artists held the top position in consecutive weeks.

“It’s been pretty great for [Beyoncé] to put a lot of eyes on me at one time. Her being able to shine a light on me helped my rollout and amplified what I was already doing in this space,” Shaboozey told The Hollywood Reporter.

“She’s a historic figure, and to have her support means the world to me. It’s exciting to see how far country music has reached since Beyoncé’s project. The music is going global.”

Despite his success, Shaboozey’s journey in the country music industry has not been without challenges. During the 2024 Country Music Awards, the artist was the subject of offhanded and dismissive remarks from some attendees.

When Cody Johnson accepted the Album of the Year award for Leather, his producer, Trent Willmon, made a comment about “kicking Shaboozey for a lot of years,” playing on the phrase “kicking booty.”

The hosts of the ceremony, Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning, also poked fun at Shaboozey, with Manning saying, “Holy Shaboozey!” during the broadcast.

While many fans took to social media to call out the comments, Shaboozey responded with grace and humor. He posted a picture of himself smiling and shrugging, along with the caption, “Ain’t nobody kicking me!”

Despite not taking home any awards that night, Shaboozey remained positive.

“I couldn’t have ever in my wildest dreams imagined being here. I’m grateful for all of it,” he wrote in a series of tweets. “Win or lose, I’m blessed by something or someone that has a power beyond my understanding.”
