TRIED IT: The Revair Reverse-Air Dryer Stretches Hair With Ease

As a blow-dry natural, I understand the importance of using heat responsibly. From keeping a heat protectant handy to using low-to-medium heat levels, these tips ensure my hair remains healthy. Unfortunately, many blow dryers are notorious for overheating hair, which can cause discomfort and breakage.

For years, I’ve heard about the wonders of the Revair Reverse-Air Dryer ($399, myrevair.com). However, my duty as a beauty editor/writer reigns supreme, so I decided to take one for the team. And baby, it was the best decision I have ever made regarding my haircare journey.

The drying process

I started by applying Revair’s Boost Fullness Nourishing Scalp & Hair Conditioning Leave-In Treatment ($36, myrevair.com) to my damp strands. Using the UNbrush Detangling Hair Brush ($18, Ulta.com), I detangled my hair in small sections, then placed them in Bantu knots. I unraveled one knot and applied the Mielle Organics Mongongo Oil Thermal & Heat Protectant Spray ($7, Amazon.com) to my strands from root to tip. 

I turned on the base unit and set the vacuum suction level to 5—there are seven levels—since my type 4 hair is pretty thick and dense. The dryer also features three heat settings: 158° at low, 221° at high, and a cool shot. I opted for the highest heat setting since it’s significantly lower than the heat from a classic blow-dryer. After placing a section of my hair in the wand and rolling it around my scalp for 60 seconds, I slowly removed the wand from my hair.

After running my fingers through my tresses, I increased the suction level to 7. I repeated the process and got the results I was looking for smooth roots and elongated strands. To gain this amount of stretch on a typical basis, I’d have to arm wrestle with a blow dryer and a blow-drying brush, so the results are gag-worthy.

Once I found the right suction level, I continued with the rest of my mane and applied my old favorite, Blue Magic Conditioning Hair Dress ($3, CVS.com) to each section to add moisture. My usual blow-dry routine would take me an hour since my roots can take time to dry and straighten. However, the Revair cut my time in half, and I finished my blow-dry routine in 30 minutes. 

My final verdict

While I understand paying $200+ for a blow-dryer in Trump’s economy is asking for a lot, I can honestly say the retail price is worth it and then some. There’s no reason we should spend hours blow-drying our hair when we can save time. The Revair Reverse-Air Dryer comes in major clutch to help moms who struggle with blow-drying their little ones’ hair. The kiddos won’t feel a thing, and you may find that they’ll start to enjoy wash day sessions.
