Lil Wayne’s first studio album in five years dropped this week, marking the latest entry in his legendary Tha Carter series. But while Tha Carter VI was one of the year’s most anticipated hip-hop releases, early social media reactions have been mixed, with fans praising Wayne’s lyricism while critiquing the production choices.

On platforms like X (formerly Twitter), many listeners pointed to a lack of cohesion in the beats and overall sound. While some longtime fans appreciated the lyrical flashes and guest features sprinkled throughout the album, others expressed disappointment, saying Wayne has struggled with consistency in recent years.

One major source of buzz was the absence of Drake and Nicki Minaj, despite earlier reports suggesting both Young Money artists would appear on the project. Their no-show left fans questioning the rollout and missing the reunion vibes many were hoping for.

Still, there are bright spots on Tha Carter VI, particularly in its stronger first half. And as with much of Wayne’s work, some believe the album may grow on listeners over time once the hype dies down.

If the album didn’t meet expectations for some, the upcoming Tha Carter VI tour may offer redemption. With a reputation for high-energy performances and a deep catalog to pull from, Lil Wayne is expected to deliver on stage. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.
