Durham Native Heading To Medical School; Hopes Of Serving Her Hometown
Durham native Kelsey Lewis is preparing to take the next big step in her journey to becoming a doctor. In just a few weeks, the 25-year-old will begin medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill—a dream years in the making.
Lewis is among more than 250 students who have received financial assistance from The 15 White Coats, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting future physicians from underrepresented backgrounds.
Reflecting on her path while on UNC’s campus, Lewis shared how her upbringing in underserved communities shaped her passion for medicine.
“Growing up around health disparities and seeing the persistent issues with health equity really inspired me to pursue this career,” she said. “I want to be part of the solution and serve the community that raised me.”
