NC Law Enforcement Cracking Down on Speeders This Week

Speeding might feel like second nature to some drivers, but North Carolina officials are making it clear: it’s not worth the risk. This week, law enforcement across the state is stepping up patrols as part of a new traffic safety campaign called “Speeding Catches Up With You.”
The push, which runs through Sunday, was launched by the Governor’s Highway Safety Program. The goal? To cut down on crashes, injuries, and fatalities caused by excessive speed.
“Speeding is one of the top reasons people are seriously hurt or killed on our roads,” said Mark Ezzell, the program’s director. “At the end of the day, getting somewhere fast isn’t worth someone’s life.”
So far in 2024, speed-related wrecks in North Carolina have claimed nearly 400 lives and many injuries that could’ve been avoided.
Drivers can expect to see more troopers and local officers posted up on highways and local roads this week, keeping a close eye out for anyone pushing the limit or driving aggressively.
Authorities also remind drivers to:
- Stick to posted speed limits
- Leave early and give yourself time
- Keep distractions down
- Buckle up and don’t drive impaired
