The Raleigh Police Department believes knowing your neighbors is the foundation for a safer community. National Night Out is an annual event focused on strengthening the relationship between the community and law enforcement. The event promotes neighborhood camaraderie to create a more caring and vibrant place to live. The event, always on the first Tuesday in August, has been held annually nationwide since 1984. The Raleigh Police Department has supported National Night Out for over 30 years.

This year, National Night Out will be observed on Tuesday, August 5. During National Night Out, the RPD asks you to leave your porch light on from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The porch light symbolizes alertness and awareness; it makes your neighbors and friends feel welcome.
