Celebrate National Mutt Day by Adopting a New Best Friend

July 31 is National Mutt Day, a day to celebrate the lovable, one-of-a-kind dogs that don’t fit into a single breed box. These mixed-breed pups, often referred to as “mutts,” bring just as much love, loyalty, and personality as their purebred cousins, and they’re often waiting patiently for forever homes in shelters across the country.
Just ask Rocket, my own four-legged best friend. He’s a mutt, adopted right here from the Wake County Animal Center, and he’s been nothing but joy since the day we brought him home. His mix of breeds makes him unique, but it’s his heart and energy that really make him family.
Right now, animal shelters are getting overcrowded. With limited space and resources, every adoption makes a difference. Whether you’re looking for a running buddy, a couch companion, or just a goofy new friend, odds are there’s a mutt out there who’s perfect for you.
So today, on National Mutt Day, consider visiting your local shelter. You just might meet your own Rocket.
