1. Agatchu – Maradona

Following the success of ‘One For Me’ with Ya Levis to kickstart 2025, fast-rising French Angolan artist and producer AGATCHU is excited to unveil his first solo release of the year titled ‘MARADONA’ as he inches closer to his highly anticipated sophomore EP. The new single is a genre-blurring slow burner, fusing raw emotion, R&B harmonies, afrobeats grooves, and deep storytelling. It sees Agatchu step fully into the spotlight, pairing his smooth vocals with Yoruba and French infused lyrics, over sleek production from longtime collaborator AZNVR (MHD, Focalistic, Tayc). Inspired by the clash of two dominant personalities in a passionate relationship, the track explores love, ego, vulnerability, and power through a cinematic lens.

Drawing from West African pop influences and modern R&B sensibilities, while tapping his own Nigerian heritage, the single blends English, Yoruba, and French to reflect Agatchu’s multicultural identity and global musical influences. Co-written with Lagos singer-songwriter Pekeys, ‘Maradona’ sees Agatchu crafting a rich layered offering that feels both soulful and unfiltered. He describes the track as a song about the tension, complexity, and beauty of relationships, adding that it is “a celebration of love, and the intricate dynamics and vulnerabilities we all experience in relationships”. With its hypnotic groove and resonant songwriting, the track marks a confident step toward Agatchu’s highly anticipated sophomore EP, set for release in spring 2025.

2. Kizz Daniel, Angélique Kidjo & Johnny Drille – Police

Award-winning Nigerian pop superstar KIZZ DANIEL opens a bold new chapter in 2025 with ‘POLICE’ – a feel-good genre-blending romantic anthem that features legendary GRAMMY Award-winning global music legend Angélique Kidjo and Nigerian soul favourite Johnny Drille. 3. ROHAN – I Wish I Could Tell You

Today, Melbourne/San Francisco alt-pop artist & producer ROHAN shares the confessional, slow-burning earworm “I Wish I Could Tell You” and DIY visualizer out now. With its infectious guitar loop and raw vocals, the vulnerable tune is an open letter to an ex love the artist never formally sends. Last month, ROHAN supported his ex’s (and Chappell Roan’s) favorite pop artist, Devon Again at her sold out San Francisco show where he debuted the track live for the first time.

On the new single, the musician moves towards acceptance as he comes to terms with a heartbreak that is out of his hands. Recorded in his home studio in Melbourne, Australia, ROHAN shares, “I originally wrote it as a folk song on my acoustic guitar in my San Francisco apartment after a volatile, unexpected breakup on the night of Halloween. Despite being lovers for over 4 years, my ex and I haven’t spoken a word to each other since that night, and the song became a release—a place to pour out everything I wished I could tell her but never could.” After he posted the demo on TikTok and received a like from Beabadoobee, he decided to officially release it. Its matching DIY visualizer was done in collaboration with celebrated director Mark Kohr whose work spans iconic videos for Green Day, No Doubt, Alanis Morissette and more.

“It acknowledges a phase where you feel stuck in the past and the weight of lingering emotions,” ROHAN shares. Influenced by the indie rock he grew up on, the artist continues, “I was reconnecting with some of my favourite Aussie indie artists like Skegss and Courtney Barnett and Matt Corby, pulling inspiration from them and blending it into the song’s DNA. And that’s what inspired the more “in the mud” 90s guitars that contrast the modern upbeat rhythm.”

ROHAN was raised by Indian parents between Australia and Singapore and was introduced to music through Australian Idol and Green Day’s American Idiot. After high school, he moved to California and attended Stanford to continue exploring his love for technology and music. Recently opening for Devon Again proved to be a cathartic moment as the pop artist was a shared love of ROHAN and his former love. Now, out of his own studio in San Francisco and pulling inspiration from Australian indie rock bands like Skeggs, 90s R&B like Lauryn Hill and contemporary pop artists like Dominic Fike, he’s ready to officially introduce himself with his own blend of Australian indie rock with R&B, electronic and folk influences that form his self-produced confessional alt-pop anthems.

4. Girlfriend ft. Tierra Whack – Bon Voyage

Rising R&B talent Girlfriend is turning up the heat with her latest release, “Bon Voyage,” a bold new single and visual featuring Grammy-nominated artist Tierra Whack, available now on all platforms.

Known for her genre-blending sound and fearless creativity, Girlfriend teams up with Tierra Whack to deliver a feel-good anthem made for romantic escapes. “Bon Voyage” blends smooth R&B vocals with playful lyricism and an infectious groove, capturing the magic of getting away with your person. The accompanying visual matches the song’s vibrant, carefree energy — a perfect backdrop for a track that feels like a fresh start.

“Bon Voyage” follows a string of standout releases from Girlfriend, including “Feelin’” featuring Maiya the Don and “Tell Me Again” with Bay Swag, both of which helped cement her as one of the most promising new voices in R&B. 6. Sawyer Hill – Heartbreak Hysteria

Today, Sawyer Hill – who many consider to be THE one to watch in indie rock – has released his highly anticipated Heartbreak Hysteria EP via (dis)harmony/AWAL. The EP features three brand new songs including new fan favorite “One Shot”- written about that ‘last call’ moment at a bar when you are trying to get up the courage to talk to that person you’ve had your eye on all night long. 

The new body of work is an intimate journey through Sawyer’s inner self – exploring the highs and lows, heartbreak and anxiety of  life and a unique amalgamation of alternative, rock and timeless post-punk.It was produced by Chris Greatti (Willow, Yungblud, MGK, Poppy) and Suzy Shinn (Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, 5 Seconds of Summer) and features previously released tracks “High On My Lows,” “For The Hell Of It,” and “Need Me Now.” On the road, Sawyer has been performing the new songs live with packed crowds singing back every single word – check out a video of the fan love HERE. 

Early praise has been rolling in for Sawyer with early looks from American Songwriter, Ones To Watch, Northern Transmissions and more – not to mention a sold out headline tour where he has been jumping into crowds every night and bringing his special version of rock to the masses. The full EP follows recent single “Aiming At My Head” whose official music video features a violent doppelganger crew, with a tragic ending. On the song Sawyer said:  “‘Aiming At My Head” is a fuck you letter to friends who let you down. The people who will act completely indifferent to your face, but then go behind your back and tear you down.” 

Up next Sawyer will continue on his Heartbreak Hysteria World Tour where he is set to perform at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on April 26th, Nashville’s Exit/In on May 2nd and more before heading overseas. Reflecting on his tour with American Songwriter recently he commented: “When I was growing up, I went to all these basement shows. There was this huge DIY scene here Fayetteville, Arkansas.” Sawyer added, “It was really cool. I saw all of these great shows. That’s kind of the spirit that I wanna bring to everywhere around the country. Sawyer grew up in a very religious Pentecostal Church household, convincing his parents at 14 years old to sign a notarized affidavit that allowed him to play in bars and clubs – as ong as he was playing music and not drinking. Parents placated, he held down a medical tech day job (until he was fired for posting his music on his social media), and performed for a better part of a decade in dive bars and local haunts of greater Northwest Arkansas, until his 2022 released song “Look at the Time” exploded online.The grungy rock hymn was written years earlier.  A song that friends would beg him to perform at Lunchapalooza, a lunchtime music jam at his high school. A song that moved his sister to tears while she was listening to him sing it in the bedroom next door. A song that was destined to become a smash hit. 

Early in 2024 “Look at the Time” launched him into the stratosphere when it topped Spotify’s Viral 50 chart in the US, hit 65 million views and 120 million video views.  The catalyst kicked off a new music career, 10 years in the making. Soon, Sawyer Hill went from playing small local shows to headlining his first-ever US tour, which sold over 15,000 tickets, with sold out dates in Europe and highly praised performances at Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits and Reeperbahm in Germany. 

7. Shunkan – Prettier

Shunkan, the LA-based rock project of Marina Sakimoto, is excited to share “Prettier,” the third single off Kamikaze Girl, her new album out May 6, 2025 via Houston’s Rite Field Records. “Prettier” is packed with meaning, featuring heartfelt lyrics that grapple with self-identity while navigating the complexity of relationships. The song moves from melancholy to anger, communicated by initial slow-pulsing beats that transform into gritty, emotional guitar. 

“Originally, Prettier didn’t have a chorus like it does now, and Alex (Newport) really encouraged me to find a melody that would complement the rest of the song,” Sakimoto explains. “I naturally gravitate toward writing bubblegum hooks, and I was worried it might become limiting—but I’ve learned to lean into my strengths while still feeling free to explore. Prettier feels like an exposed nerve, but I hope it resonates with anyone else who feels like they don’t fit into conventions.”

Recorded last year in Joshua Tree, CA and produced by Alex Newport (Death Cab for Cutie, Melvins, The Mountain Goats), the forthcoming record inspects how to put things back together after falling apart. Heralding the announcement was “Hellbound,” a hazy, melancholic track that expects the worst and wants the best. Grounded by Sakimoto’s honeyed vocals, brightly toned guitar riffs reverberate like late-night memories and desire-driven mistakes. Following “Hellbound” came the single “Usual Suspects,” a high-energy, punchy track reminiscent of early 2000s emo. Sakimoto’s powerful voice and heavy guitar riffs center around lyrics that navigate life amid chaos.

Shunkan signed to Rite Field Records last fall and quickly mapped out her first full-length offering since 2019’s Cumberland Falls. Sakimoto first debuted the project in 2014 with her first EP, Honey, Milk and Blood, which earned praise from the likes of DIY, Brooklyn Vegan and Far Out Magazine. Shunkan’s critically acclaimed first LP The Pink Noise, arrived in 2014 with fan favorite tracks, “Garden” and “S.A.D.” This year will mark the release of her most refined and introspective album yet, Kamikaze Girl.

8. Fib – You Ruined Everything

Philadelphia-based band Fib return today with a third and final single, “You Ruined Everything,” off their upcoming album Heavy Lifting, available April 25, 2025 via the tastemaking Philadelphia label Julia’s War Recordings. Through soft vocals and surges of accented acoustics, the band tells a story of how putting up an easy defense can isolate oneself from the world. The song’s mellow tone, as well as the implication of that self-protective tendency leading to strains and ends of multiple relationships and connections, renders its title less of an accusation and more of a lament.

Today’s release, with “PS” and “Mutuals,” marks the third single from Heavy Lifting, which set the precedent for the band’s shifting soundscape on their debut record. “Mutuals” is both catchy and experimental, acting as a defining opener to the forthcoming LP. “PS” sorts through a disjointed emotional connection and appropriately concludes with a frenetic instrumental breakdown. These songs frame Heavy Lifting as a conversational rumination on the way love and understanding between people can be distorted, and the band’s clever technical artistry makes their somber wonderings feel wry and real.

Upon the announcement of Heavy Lifting, the founder of Julia’s War Recordings and bandleader of They Are Gutting A Body of Water Douglas Dulgarian said the following about Fib via Instagram: “Fib is free jazz in an era where everything else is getting more cookie cutter and snapped to the grid. And that’s what I love most about them. I never know what to expect. It’s completely unique and individual, and although you can certainly hear the influences, I am always completely knocked off-center when I hear or see what they’re creating. If you have ever seen Fib live, you can attest to the fact that it’s one of the most insane experiences possible. I can’t quite explain it and that feels good to know that I can’t.”

Fib debuted in 2021 with a tape of their debut songs, featuring the fan-favorite track, “Bedside.” Heavy Lifting sees the band take their sound to the next level, trading lo-fi recordings for refined riffs while synthesizing post-punk sounds into poppy hooks. Fib is vocalist and guitarist Gage Nelson, guitarist Damien Nicholson, bassist Logan Adam and drummer Charlie Libby Watt, who wrote, recorded and produced Heavy Lifting together.

9. MIKE & Tony Seltzer – Prezzy

After cryptically teasing “dolemite” on social media to a frenzy last month, MIKE and Tony Seltzer officially announce their collaborative album Pinball II. The sequel to their beloved joint project Pinball will be out May 7th via 10k, and includes the secretive teaser track “dolemite”, featuring Lunchbox. The latest offering from the new project, “Prezzy” is out today, co-produced by Tony Seltzer and Clams Casino, and is accompanied by a Nicholas Stafford Briggs-directed video. The album is available for pre-save on DSPs now. MIKE is also releasing two double-LP vinyl editions of Pinball II, with a gatefold jacket featuring Tamia Brown’s artwork. Both the standard black and 10k-exclusive green colorways are available to purchase at www.10k.global.

The first Pinball collab project from MIKE and Tony signaled “a fearless sonic shift” in MIKE’s sound according to Rolling Stone. Pinball II solidifies MIKE’s dexterity as an artist, showing that he doesn’t simply shift between styles, he adds them to his growing repertoire. Once again, MIKE and Tony’s chemistry as a pairing is front and center, with the addition of familiar faces via guest features including Earl Sweatshirt and 10k labelmates Sideshow and Niontay. Pinball II also features co-production from Akachi (Chief Keef, Playboi Carti, JT), ivvys1 (OsamaSon, Ken Carson, stepteam), Laron (Jay Critch, Rich The Kid), Dylvinci (Doechii, MAVI) and is also the first time MIKE, as dj blackpower, has co-produced a song with Tony on one of their joint projects.

Earlier this year, MIKE released his tenth solo LP Showbiz!, a capstone album that was critically acclaimed by the likes of The Guardian, The FADER, and Pitchfork, who awarded it Best New Album in their review, MIKE’s third BNA. At just 26 years old, MIKE’s become one of the essential young voices in hip-hop this decade through his own extensive discography, his label 10k and his free Young World festival in Bed-Stuy, which will celebrate its fifth edition this Summer.

The announcement of Pinball II coincides with MIKE beginning the North American leg of his #aotc tour, which completed its European leg earlier this month. This tour, the biggest of MIKE’s career, resumes tonight in Philadelphia and includes 40 dates across the country, concluding with a hometown show at New York City’s Irving Plaza on May 31st. The North American leg of the tour includes support from the likes of Sideshow, Niontay, semiratruth, El Cousteau, Mercury, Stahhr, Salami Rose Joe Louis, Liv.e, RiTchie, Maxo, Camden Malik, Anysia Kym, duendita, Navy Blue, Mike Shabb, 12k Gotti and additional special surprise guests. 10. Jae Stephens – SMH

Jae Stephens specializes in serving uptempo R&B and pop bangers that feel both classic and contemporary. Today, the Dallas-born singer-songwriter makes a triumphant return, sharing “SMH,” her first new single and music video since last September’s acclaimed SELLOUT EP. Listen HERE and watch HERE.

“SMH” shows off Jae’s skillful melodic approach and pop versatility, as she switches from conversational rhythms to swooning falsettos over syncopated handclaps and spritely synths. Adding a bouncy pop element to her R&B core, the playful new banger finds Jae flipping through her rolodex of “h*es” to find a companion for the night who will bring the most pleasure and least drama: “I got Chris, I met online/Sean aint sh*t but he so fine/I might be theirs, but they ain’t mine/I got so so so so, so many/H*es” she sings. In the video, which features cameos from Maeta, TA Thomas, Brandon Banks, and Larry Van Buren, Jae Stephens host an open audition for the perfect man, studying each with a critical eye until she realizes that she doesn’t have to choose. 

11. Ricky Bravo – KILLKILLKILL

DIY hip-hop artist Ricky Bravo just released his new single “KILLKILLKILL!” On the unfiltered anthem of resilience and self-reliance, the introspective rapper is betting on himself and confronting life’s obstacles head-on. Ricky slides on the laid back synth-filled beat as he reflects on his tale of personal triumph – from navigating the challenges of crime to pursuing his dreams. The record is a testament to the strength found in pushing through adversity, shedding the need for validation.

Ricky Bravo gives dense rhymes filled with vivid observations and experiences in East New York, Brooklyn while pairing bouncy productions with laid back flows. His medium toned rhyming is unusually empathetic — simultaneously indignant, conversational and dexterous. His songs show him excavating into the motivations of those around him while always looking for answers. Ricky always had love for music coming from a musical family. At the age of 14, he started producing beats for him and his friends to freestyle on before basketball practice. As time went on, many locals were becoming attracted to Ricky’s drum-heavy production. The rapper later went on to produce for artists such as Icewear Vezzo, Lil Zay Osama, Don Q, and more. In 2022, Ricky released his debut single “5% Tint” produced by Billboard producer and close friend Meech Magic. The feedback was immense on the record, which showed Ricky he had a promising future as a musician and he hasn’t looked back since. With over 1.6 million streams across platforms, Ricky Bravo is cementing himself as a rapper to watch.

12. GoGo Penguin – Fallowfield Loops

Today, GoGo Penguin, the Manchester trio known for their blend of jazz, classical and electronic influences since forming in 2012, announce their seventh studio album NECESSARY FICTIONS due out June 20. It’s a bold new chapter in the band’s evolution and represents a deep dive into identity, authenticity, and transformation. 

Alongside the announcement is the first single “Fallowfield Loops,” a punchy, melancholic, and danceable tribute to their hometown. The accompanying video — directed by pianist Chris Illingworth and bassist Nick Blacka — features evocative visuals of Manchester’s iconic Toast Rack building, the brutalist landmark seen on the album’s cover, and serves as a visual extension of the track’s mood: stark, nostalgic, and full of movement.

GoGo Penguin’s last album Everything Is Going to Be OK (2023) found the band reeling from almost breaking up, a new drummer in the form of Jon Scott (formerly of Mulatu Atsake’s band), coping with the death of family members, grief, the pandemic, and finding solace in the studio as they journeyed through uncertainty, survival and ultimately, resilience. 

With NECESSARY FICTIONS, GoGo Penguin — Chris Illingworth (piano, synths), Nick Blacka (bass, synths), and Jon Scott (drums) — have embraced new textures and ideas more fully than ever before. They are operating from a place of confidence, having truly found their groove with Scott, and Illingworth and Blacka both in their fifth decade, and truly embracing who they are without fear. The album sees them expanding their signature sound, drawing deeper into modular synths, and, for the first time, welcoming other voices into their sonic world.

“This is what we want to make right now, and it feels authentic,” says Blacka. NECESSARY FICTIONS is the sound of a band unafraid to reflect who they are — not just in sound, but in spirit and surroundings.

13. Theo Bleak – Said Like A Poet

Today, Scottish indie artist Theo Bleak shares her latest single with a stunning official visualizer, “Said Like A Poet,” offers another look into her forthcoming EP, Bad Luck Is Two Yellow Flowers, arriving May 15, 2025 via Polymoon. A sharp and introspective track, “Said Like A Poet” explores the tension between intellect and emotion, questioning the way ideas can be beautifully articulated yet still fall short of true meaning.

“Said Like A Poet is a scathing look at how much I idealize intellect, even though I’m entirely emotionally driven,” Theo Bleak shares. “I think ideas can be beautifully written between people, but ultimately, there are concepts that lack properness—regardless of how pretentiously you write them out. I wrote this song about very human things, things I wish I knew how to ask for.”

Co-written with close collaborators Mark Johnston, Megan McNally, and Dan Gautreau, the song captures Theo Bleak’s signature blend of haunting melodies and poetic lyricism. The track’s layered instrumentals and emotive vocal delivery mirror the push and pull between intellect and raw feeling.

“Said Like A Poet” serves as a perfect sign-off to the upcoming EP,, a project built on themes of longing, superstition, and blurred friendship. “The EP is my imaginings of my friend’s inner life,” Theo Bleak explains. “Each song represents a different facet of our blurry friendship. The title imagery is tied to ideas of superstition, astrology, and the feeling of deep, unwavering longing.”

Following the success of last year’s introspective single “You Said I’d Feel It All Again,” this track, along with last month’s “Peach Sky,” marks another chapter in Theo Bleak’s exploration of raw emotion and dreamlike soundscapes. “Peach Sky” captures the fleeting beauty of a single moment, blending wistful lyricism with the artist’s signature “goth waltz” guitar melodies and lush, layered vocals. Theo Bleak delves into themes of change, longing, and the search for meaning.

December’s “You Said I’d Feel It All Again” garnered widespread support. The single was played on BBC Radio 1’s Future Artists, BBC Radio 2’s Unwinds and was also recognized by multiple editorial playlists such as New Music Friday in the USA, UK, Belgium, Sweden & Netherlands as well as Fresh Folk, All New Pop, and Next Gen Singer-Songwriters. 29. Sleep Habits – Antique Mall

New Orleans musician Sleep Habits, the moniker of Alan Howard, is excited to announce his new EP, Mourning Doves, available May 10, 2025 via NOLA’s DIY scenemaker Kiln Recordings. Out now is lead single, “Antique Mall,” which reflects on the tendency to treasure and archive memories, clinging to conceptions of the past even as life continues to shift. Today’s release aims to make sense of that burden through a combination of hazy, mellow acoustics and focused synths, merging feelings of old and new to reach a point of understanding. The impending EP was heavily influenced by Killers and Stars by Patterson Hood, featuring live recordings and sparse reflections on the past.

“At the time I wrote this song, I was coming to terms with the fact that you can’t carry everything with you throughout your life,” Howard reflects on “Antique Mall.” “The physical space of the antique mall symbolizes that feeling. With that symbol as its base, the song explores allowing yourself to hold onto the reverence of memory and acknowledge how it has shaped you, while letting go of the idealistic sense of the ‘good ol’ days’.”

Also out now is the music video for “Antique Mall,” which features a collection of warm, vintage visuals that reflect the liminal space people often traverse when reflecting back on memories and their sense of identity. Howard encourages viewers to sift through the curious objects featured throughout the track using an “I Spy” list, creating the opportunity to viewers to engage or simply take in shots of the ephemeral mall landscape.

Sleep Habits has been an active project within the New Orleans music scene for several years. Howard’s previous releases include the 2023 EP, Trinkets and Horses, in collaboration with Mariah Houston and the 2022 solo album Ouchie!. Sleep Habits’ music dwells in the space between the organic sounds of acoustic DIY and experimental shoegaze, often resulting in collaboration. Mourning Doves was largely recorded live in the living room of Howard’s friend, Tyler Scurlock. In recording the EP through these live takes alongside Scurlock, Noa Jamir and Quinn Bankston, Mourning Doves aptly captures both the nuanced dynamism of live production and the sound of the space itself.

The soundscape proudly throws it back to the Golden Age of hip-hop—which he helped pioneer. At the same time, he adopts a fiery and fresh flow evocative of his signature delivery, yet simultaneously future-facing. 45. Psiryn – The Softest

After making history as the first R&B girl group in over two decades to top Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart with their breakout single Sober, Psiryn returns with intention. 47. Jake Wesley Rogers – My Misery

49. Michael Marcagi – Midwest Kid

Globally acclaimed, Platinum-certified singer-songwriter and storyteller Michael Marcagi releases his highly-anticipated new Midwest Kid EP today via Warner Records. Listen HERE.

The 5-song EP opens with standout track “Wish I Never Met You” featuring Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers.
