Today, Irene is blasting the eastern Bahamas with winds up to 115 mph, which ranks it as a Category 3 hurricane. Various forecast models show Irene making landfall along the Outer Banks or passing by offshore late Saturday.

It doesn’t look like we’re going to take a huge hit here in the Triangle unless something happens dramatically with that forecast track.

Federal officials have warned Irene could cause flooding, power outages or worse all along the East Coast as far north as Maine, even if it stays offshore…

Although we’re 3 days out from a predicted landfall, the forecast for Irene could change.
