A report of someone carrying a gun that prompted East Carolina University to order a campus lockdown this morning turned out to be unfounded.
An alert put out to the campus community shortly after 10 a.m. said an “armed individual” was seen on 5th Street, adjacent to the ECU campus.
ECU police systemically swept the campus looking for someone carrying a gun, while students and staff were ordered to remain inside. The lockdown was lifted at about 1 p.m.
