Rap veteran Too $hort spoke to VladTV about the similarities between Trinidad James’ hit “All Gold Everything” and his 2001 song, “I Luv” featuring Scarface, Trick Daddy and Daz.

“If you gotta good music ear you can hear it without somebody pullin’ your coat on it,” he says in the interview. “The first time I ever heard it I was like ‘woah.’ It’s very distinct. Not that that they just slowed it down and used the same riffs, but the drum pattern, it’s that same…So I called Daz (who produced it) and told him to play our song ‘I Luv’ then play ‘All Gold Everything’ and he said ‘woah.’”

However, $hort readily admits that sampling and inspiration are common in hip-hop and didn’t seem like he was angry.

“Hip-Hop is all about recycling. The origins of early Bay records are replays of disco records,” he said flatly. “As long as we take care of everything properly it’s all love.”

By “take care of” we’re assuming Trinidad James may need to slice off a piece of that $2 Million advance for Short Dog. Watch the video to Too $hort’s song and let us know if he has a case.
