After a two-year prison sentence, Ja Rule is a free man!

The rapper, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, was released from Ray Brook Federal Prison in New York today after serving sentences for attempted illegal gun possession and tax evasion.

TMZ reports, Ja Rule’s wife picked him up around 10 a.m. and they traveled home, where he will remain on house arrest until July 28.

In 2010, the “Always on Time” rapper plead guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, and in 2011 he was sentenced to 28 months for failing to pay more than $3 million in taxes for his earnings from 2004-2006.

He was originally scheduled for a July release.

According to Ja’s spokesperson Melanie A. Bonvicino, “At present, he looks forward to spending some time with his family while he completes his memoir.”
