Several artist have vowed to join Stevie Wonder and not perform in the state of Florida until the controversial Stand Your Ground laws have been lifted in that state. If the artist remain committed to the boycott it could cost the state of Florida millions of dollars in lost revenue and taxes. This is not the first time an artist took a stand against a state due to unjust laws. In 1961 Ray Charles used his music to assist in the Civil rights movement. When he was informed by his Promoter that some his audiences were segregated Ray refused to perform. Ray thought it was wrong to force his African American fans were to sit in the balcony while his white fans occupied the best seats in the house. Ray was one of the first performers black or white to challenge Jim Crow and other unfair laws. Artist who have pledged not to perform in Florida along with Stevie Wonder are:
