Fayetteville Artist Lotus Talks Inspiration on ‘Freestyles’ Podcast
Fayetteville hip-hop artist and producer Lotus brought his sharp lyricism and homegrown perspective to Episode 114 of the DJ Remedy Freestyles podcast on K97.5.
Lotus, a native of Cumberland County, is known for a “boom bap” sound that stands apart from the trap style dominating much of the local scene. He produces most of his own music and pulls influence from a wide range of genres, giving his work a versatility rooted in his upbringing.
Growing up as a military brat, Lotus moved through neighborhoods including Inglewood, College Lakes, Spring Lake and Pine Forest. He said that exposure to different communities and subcultures shaped both his worldview and his sound.
Much of the conversation centered on creativity and staying hungry in a demanding industry. Lotus explained that his art is a direct reflection of how he moves through life.
“Your experiences that you download, how you take in the world, is what you put back out,” he said.
He also spoke candidly about the work it takes to build a career as an independent artist. Rather than waiting for the right break, he urged others to stay in motion.
“A lot of people say all work isn’t good work, but no work is no work at all,” Lotus said.
When it came to building a following, he offered a practical view on standing out in a crowded field.
“Be so good you can’t be ignored, or be so loud to where you can’t be ignored,” he said. “If you’re good at being good, find somebody that’s good at being loud.”
His advice to independent artists testing their music and building a team was direct: “Go outside, go to work.”
Lotus closed the episode with a freestyle marked by confident delivery and dense wordplay.
