nc museum of history

Discover the rewards of sharing North Carolina’s history with others. As a volunteer docent at the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh, you can meet people from around the world and learn more about the Tar Heel State. If you are interested in becoming a museum volunteer, contact Debra Nichols, volunteer and group programs coordinator, at 919-807-7986 or debra.nichols@ncdcr.gov to set up an interview.

A series of training classes will begin on Monday, Sept. 16, and take place every Monday through November. Choose either a morning or an evening session to fit your schedule.

During training classes, participants learn about interpreting touch items on exhibit Spotlight Carts, leading exhibit tours for children and adults, and more. Share information about exhibits that include The Story of North Carolina, North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, and A Call to Arms: North Carolina Military History Gallery. Docents enjoy benefits such as field trips to historic sites, an annual appreciation reception, and lectures by guest speakers. To learn more about the benefits of becoming a docent, visit the museum’s website at ncmuseumofhistory.org.
