Texas-girl-charged-with-rape

A 10-year-old Houston, Texas girl has been charged with rape after police said that she allegedly played a game of “doctor” with a 4-year-old boy in

her neighborhood.

Fox news affiliate KRIV reported that the incident took place back April and resulted in the girl spending four nights in a Juvenile Detention center after charges were filed against her in June.

The girl was 9-years-old at the time and had been playing “doctor” with some friends when a neighbor says that she saw her inappropriately touch the genitals of a 4-year-old boy. The neighbor then notified the boy’s mother who called filed a complaint against the girl. After investigating the incident for two months, Houston police officers went to the girl’s home and arrested her for suspicion of rape.

The girl’s family wants her to be exonerated of these charges, but they will have to wait a little longer to find out what a judge has to say. Her court hearing was delayed last week and moved do sometime in October.

Quanell X, who has been working with the family, says Ashley was among a group of children playing. That’s when a neighbor saw something and called the mother of a 4 year old boy who was also playing in the group. Ashley was accused of touching the child in his private area.

Quanell says, “I’ve never dealt with a child this young being accused of a crime. In fact this was nothing more than inappropriate horseplay that has now lead to a child that is ten years old being charged with aggravated rape.”

This is a tough call. I can somewhat see both sides of the fence.  If it was a 10-year-old boy who inappropriately touched a 4-year-old girl then there probably wouldn’t be as much outrage.  I think as a society we are just conditioned to have a double standard when it comes to boys and girls.  But at the same time, I couldn’t imagine my daughter spending four days in a juvenile detention center for something that probably wasn’t really intended to be malicious.

WHAT DO YOU THINK…? SHOULD THIS LITTLE GIRL BE CHARGED WITH A CRIME FOR PLAYING DOCTOR?
