The relationship between conscious rapper Lupe Fiasco and his label Atlantic Records has been a complicated one to say the least. The label gave him a hard time about releasing his third album “Lasers” with no hit single back in 2010, which ended with legions of Lupe fans coming to his rescue. His fifth studio album, “Tetsuo & Youth,” has run into the same roadblock at Atlantic,  but this time it appears that Fiasco has friends in higher places.

Hacker collective Anonymous issued an ultimatum to Atlantic Records via Twitter on October 15 to give an update about the album within 24 hours or face their wrath…

…and it actually worked.

Lupe made his appreciation to Anonymous known in a very cryptic way:

The fact that a major record company like Atlantic folded to the likes of Anonymous shows that they mean business and the amount of sway and staying power the collective has.

Fiasco will still be releasing his mixtape “Lost In The Atlantic” soon, with the first single from it “Lilies,” featuring frequent collaborator Sirah, will drop tomorrow.

Dylan “CineMasai” Green is a movie geek, hip-hop aficionado, and pita chip enthusiast. Find him on Twitter.
