Lions defeat Minnesota 16-14, now tied for first in NFC North
The Detroit Lions are now agonizingly close to a playoff spot.
And agonizing is a pretty good way to describe their latest victory.
Matt Prater’s 33-yard field goal with 3:38 remaining lifted Detroit to a 16-14 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, pulling the Lions into a tie for first place in the NFC North.
Detroit spotted Minnesota a 14-0 lead before slowly rallying with the help of two second-quarter interceptions.
Even at the end, the Lions had to sweat out a 68-yard field goal attempt by Minnesota’s Blair Walsh on the game’s final play. The kick was short.
The Lions (10-4) have won three in a row and are now even atop the division with Green Bay, which lost to Buffalo earlier in the day.
Detroit can clinch a playoff spot with a win at Chicago next weekend.
North Park Plaza demolished in Southfield
The North Park Plaza was built more than 40 years ago on Nine Mile between Southfield and Greenfield and it sits almost directly across the street from the FOX 2 studios. In less than 10 seconds, it came crashing down Sunday. A lucky Oakland Community College graduate got to hit the button, after an anonymous bidder won.

Police chase ends in one dead, 4 injured
Detroit Police say they are investigating a critical accident that has left at least one person dead Sunday after a police chase.
Police say they attempted a traffic stop on a white small car in the area of Outer Drive and Warren on Detroit’s east side.
According to police, the car failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended at the intersection of Courville and Munich after the vehicle crashed into a tree after losing control.
According to investigators on-scene, a female passenger died as a result of her injuries from the crash.
The driver, and three other passengers, one of them a 9-year-old boy were all hospitalized as well. We are told their conditions range from serious to critical as of Sunday evening.
Police also say there were drugs found in the vehicle which may have been why the vehicle did not stop.
Visitation and funeral arrangements announced for Bill Bonds
TV lost one of its legends on Saturday.
Bill Bonds was TV in Detroit for many, many years. An iconic interviewer with a style all his own. A style that remains unmatched. Fox 2’s Huel Perkins remembered Bonds as someone who was on a pedestal all of his own.
When Bonds wasn’t reading headlines, he was making them. Whether it be the interviews in which his subjects would walk off set or his sudden departure from television, Bill knew how to captivate any audience.
After a long career on the anchor desk for WXYZ, Bonds came to Fox 2 in 1995, bringing with him his producer Glenn Therrien. Therrien, a producer then, is now the Fox 2 sports director.
Most say however, it is when the TV cameras weren’t rolling is when Bonds left the biggest impressions. Especially on the impressionable, like on the 15-year-old future Fox 2 reporter Roop Raj who had Bonds on as a guest on his Troy High School talk show.
Bonds died around 4:15 p.m. Saturday at the age of 82. His family released this statement Saturday afternoon:
“For us Bill was so much more than the face on TV, the talented anchorman. He was a wonderful husband and father who cared deeply about his children and his family. We will miss him greatly.
Bill had a great passion for the news business. More than anything, he loved bringing the news to the people of Detroit. Bill believed we were a better community, if we were a well-informed community.
We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
The Bonds Family
Bill Bond’s visitation service will be held Thursday, December 18, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lynch & Sons Funeral Home. The home is located at 1328 N. Crooks Road, Clawson, MI. There will also be a sharing of memories service, Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the home.
The funeral service, which will be a service held for family, friends and colleagues will be held Friday, December 19 at 11 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon in Birmingham.
