The league released a statement about the decidion and said they hope to reschedule the game to appear in Charlotte in 2019.

“Since March, when North Carolina enacted HB2 and the issue of legal protections for the LGBT community in Charlotte became prominent, the NBA and the Charlotte Hornets have been working diligently to foster constructive dialogue and try to effect positive change,” the league said. “We have been guided in these discussions by the long-standing core values of our league. These include not only diversity, inclusion, fairness and respect for others but also the willingness to listen and consider opposing points of view.”

The league is expected to announce an alternate venue for the event soon. Many are speculaytng that New Orleans will be the front-runner to host the game next year. Other cities including Chicago, New York, and Miami have been mentioned as possible locations.

Leage commisioner Adam Silver says the bill which is considered by many to be anti-LGBT creates bigger issues than basketball.

Governor Pat McCrory’s office has not responded to any requests for comment on the game moving.
