An Atlants Charter school is under a lot of heat a recent performance, that has now gone viral. On Thursday, the Kindenzi School at Old Fourth Ward held a program geared toward providing cultural competency training for teachers. Well, during the performance second graders recited the poem “We Wear the Mask,” by Laurence Dunbar.
Videos captured by parents and attendees quickly went viral and of course what a lot of people had to say was not good. The school has responded saying, “This was a poor and inappropriate decision and we sincerely apologize and accept responsibility for the hurt, anger, frustration, and disappointment that this has caused in the Kindezi community and the community at large.” They also went on to say the school is “deeply committed” to ensuring that “this never happens again.” SMH.
