Amidst all the backlash that Starbucks has been receiving, over the prejudice actions of one of their managers, they will be closing all of the 8,000 company-owned stores in the U.S. While the stores are closed on May 29th, the company’s employees will be educated on racial bias.

After two black men were arrested while waiting in a Philadelphia Starbucks store for a friend, the company is hoping this will prevent similar events from taking place. The CEO says, “I’ve spent the last few days in Philadelphia with my leadership and listening to the community., learning what we did wrong and the steps we need to take to fix it. While this is not limited to Starbucks, we’re committed to being a part of the solution. Closing our stores for racial bias training is just one step in a journey that requires dedication from every level of our company and partnerships in our local communities.”
