Singer Ella Mai sat down to discuss her new album at Hot 97 to discuss the release of her new album. She also talked about the controversy surrounding her and Jaquees who made a version of “Trip” that gained a lot of popularity online. Fans became curious when they noticed that Jaquees’ version had been removed from Youtube. .
When asked about the controversy Ella Mai said:
“I don’t play any role in it, to be honest. I feel like my label made a statement, and there’s not really much else to say about it to be honest. People are gonna take it how they want,” Ella says. She also adds in that she doesn’t want anyone to assume it was all her doing. “People don’t actually know the real ins and outs of the industry.”
She also said that she doesn’t mind if artists cover her song because that’s how she got her start. Putting the rumors to rest, she says that “I never even followed him,” when asked about hitting the block button on Jaqueese.
