North Carolina Senate leaders say computer parlors where people buy phone or Internet time and play games to win cash and prizes are running illegal gambling operations and should be stopped.
The Senate scheduled debate Monday evening on a bill that would bar these “sweepstakes” games.
There are 600 “sweepstakes cafes” or “business centers” across the state. These business owners say shutting them down would put thousands of people out of work.
