The woman who is at the front of the domestic abuse story that shook up the NFL is finally speaking out. NBC’s
Matt Lauer sat down with Janay Rice and her mother for an exclusive interview that aired earlier today. Janay talked about the incident that happened in an elevator when her now husband Ray Rice punched her and dragged her body to their hotel room.

According to Janay the events happened for a reason and she believes that the couple was “chosen” to help bring awareness to domestic violence. Rice also said that she feels that God chose her to go through this ordeal. She continued, “You know it’s not what I am going through every day but you know it’s definitely brought this topic to the forefront … and we are okay with that.”
