On Friday night, a young lady tried to commit suicide and caused a fire that spread throughout her apartment complex at the Trails of North Hills Dr. The blaze ended up causing 12-14 families to be displaced and most of the them lost everything, either from fire or smoke damage.

The police and 60 firefighters made their way to the complex and were able to get the fire under control around 9:30. WRAL has more:

— Firefighters say a blaze that injured one person and destroyed 12 apartments in Raleigh was started when someone tried to commit suicide.

Authorities said the fire started around 7:15 p.m. Friday at the Trails of North Hills apartments, in the 1900 block of Generation Drive.

When firefighters arrived, they found a woman with significant burns on a patio. Investigators said the woman had jumped to safety.

She was taken to a local hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries. Her death was ruled a suicide, police said.

No other injuries were reported, but 24 people were displaced by the fire.
