Tina Knowles recently opened up to PEOPLE magazine about her wedding to actor, Richard Lawson. “It couldn’t have been more perfect,” Tina gushes about her big day.
The couple wed on a yacht in Newport Beach, CA amongst only family and close friends.
Tina also appointed her grandkids, Blue Ivy, 3, and Juelz, 10, to be the flower girl and ring bearer in the wedding.
In fact, it was Blue Ivy who helped give her Gigi the courage to remarry. “[In September] we went on a boat with Beyoncé and Jay Z and when we came out one night dressed to go to dinner, Blue said, ‘Oh, y’all look beautiful. When are y’all getting married?” Tina tells PEOPLE. “Richard said, ‘Oh, Blue, soon. Do you approve?”
It was then that Tina and Richard decided to expand on the conversation which eventually led to such a joyous occasion.
Other guest included Solange, Beyoncé along with Destiny’s Child members, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.
Richard’s children were also in attendance as well as Tina’s son-in-laws, Jay Z and Alan Ferguson. “To walk down the aisle and see all my friends and family and to see my handsome man standin’ there, and to know that at 61 you can still find love and have a magical day like that … it was really beautiful,” says Tina as she recalls the spectacular day.
Tina, 61, walked down the aisle to “Ready For Love” by India Arie in a stunning dress designed by Romona Keveza.
The couple decided against having their musically-inclined family members’ to perform at the wedding seeing as they didn’t want them to work. “We wanted them to enjoy the day and not have the pressure of it” Tina explained.
The newlyweds have been acquainted for several decades however it wasn’t until a year and a half ago that they decided to make their relationship more than platonic. Tina informs PEOPLE that within four months of dating she knew, “this is somebody that I could really spend the rest of my life with.”
She and Matthew Knowles finalized their divorce in 2011 which left Tina in a down place. “There was a time when I doubted if I would find love again,” says Tina. “But I was determined to be happy.” With the help of family and friends, Tina decided to get back on the horse and reestablish her happiness. “It was important to me to have a wedding and walk in white, because sometimes we feel that at a certain age you should act a certain way,” she says. “You can find love at any age. You just have to go for it.”
