It’s been a week since the devastating earthquake in Nepal that claimed the lives of over 7,000 people, however there is one small sliver of silver lining–a 101-year-man, Funchu Tamang was found in the rubble of his home on Saturday with only minor injuries. He lived in a village about 50 miles northwest of Kathmandu, but the epic earthquake still leveled his home.

According to The Guardian, police also rescued three women on Sunday from the rubble in Sindhupalchowk, one of Nepal’s worst-hit districts.

“He was brought to the district hospital in a helicopter. His condition is stable,” a police official told AFP. Agence France-Presse reported that the centenarian suffered only “minor injuries to his ankle and hand,” despite being trapped since the quake hit on April 25.

What an amazing piece of news for a country that’s still aching from the shocking death toll of the 7.8-magniture quake. According to reports, Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat said over the weekend that the death toll is expected to rise significantly once relief teams reach mountain villages. “There are still villages where we know that all houses have been destroyed, but have not yet been able to reach,” he said in a statement.

The death toll has the potential to grow to at least 10,000. At least there’s this one feel-good story.  It doesn’t offset the death toll, but it helps lift the spirits of Nepal in their time of need.
