Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump claims to be “pro-life and recently went on record to say that women who have abortions should be punished. Trump says that he is not sure what the punishments should be, but expressed his desire to ban abortion if he were elected to be President.

Trump’s interview with MSNBC is getting a lot of attention because after receiving some flack he later recanted his statement. Trump’s approval rating among women is down nationally, and I am sure this won’t help him any.

Trump also pissed off some of his Republican counterparts who disagreed with Trumps statement about not punishing those who actually perform the abortions.

The statement came as Mr. Trump appeared at a town-hall-style forum with Chris Matthews of MSNBC, recorded for broadcast on Wednesday night. Mr. Matthews pressed Mr. Trump, who once supported abortion rights, on his calls to ban the procedure, asking how he might enforce such a restriction.

“You go back to a position like they had where they would perhaps go to illegal places,” Mr. Trump said, after initially deflecting questions. “But you have to ban it.”

He added, after a bit more prodding, “There has to be some form of punishment.”

Not a good day for The Donald…
