Spelman College may join other prestigious all-women’s colleges in accepting transgender students for enrollment, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

A letter to the college’s community says a task force, led by Vice President for Enrollment Ingrid Hayes, will study the issue and make a recommendation to President Mary Schmidt Campbell by the end of the academic year.

Most parents who were moving their daughters into dormitories at the historic Black college told CBS46-TV that they are open to the policy change. But one mother from St. Louis admitted on camera that she had “mixed emotions about that.”

In 2015, Barnard College was the last of the so-called Seven Sisters, the group of elite woman’s colleges in the Northeast, to admit transgender students.

The New York Times noted in an editorial that one of the challenging issues that the colleges considered is what point in the gender transition process to recognize these students as women.
