This Thursday, Colin Kaepernick was announced to be the 2017 recipient of the Sports Illustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award. Each year The recipient of this award is chosen by both the magazine and the family of Muhammad Ali. The award is meant to “honor a figure who embodies the ideals of sportsmanship, leadership, and philanthropy and has used sports as a platform for changing the world.”
Colin is being honored for his decision to take a knee for the National Anthem starting during the 2016 football season. He did this to bring awareness to the inequality and injustices against people of color. Although his doing so has altered his stance with the NFL , Kaepernick continues to devote himself to activism.
