Ex-NFLer and community activist, Colin Kaepernick, has helped convince NIKE to drop an upcoming Betsy Ross themed flag shoe, which is “a symbol that he and others consider offensive,” according to the WSJ.

The patriotic shoe, which was slated to hit stores 4th of July weekend, Air Max 1 USA, featured a American Flag with 13 stars from the American Revolution. Many believe the flag promotes slavery and have deem the flag racist — as it has been appropriated by White Nationalists and right-wing groups.

“Nike has chosen not to release the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it featured an old version of the American flag,” Mark Rhodes, NIKE spokesman
