Durham, NC)  National NAACP President and CEO Ben Jealous and N.C. NAACP President William J. Barber will conduct a statewide press conference in Estey Hall on the campus of Shaw University on Saturday, February 13 at 10:45am following their meeting with representatives of the Historic Thousands on Jones Street (HK on J) Coalition and area NAACP adult and youth presidents.

HKon J Coalition leaders held a 45-minute conference call today for thoughtful assessment of the weather conditions predicted for southern North Carolina tomorrow morning.    The new date for HK on J will be Saturday, February 27 using the same schedule.  Rev. Barber said, “We considered the strong momentum and excitement across the State for tomorrow’s Assembly.  There are more buses rented, more car pools organized, and more young people mobilizing than ever before.  The right wing’s attack on diverse schools, their obstructionist tactics towards a good jobs program, and their impediments to economic investment in the most vulnerable communities has aroused people of good will across the state.  But we also considered our elders, our children, our people with special needs, the threat of icy roads in the morning, and the people driving from Wilmington and other southern areas where snow is predicted.  After a thoughtful discussion, we decided to postpone HKon J for two weeks, so all our people can come safely.  We will use the two weeks to fill more buses, and build the momentum of the HK on J movement here and across the South.  We encourage all North Carolinians to save the date and join us in Raleigh then.”
