In an attempt to persuade her husband to relocate to a safer neighborhood, California psychologist, Laurie Ann Martinez, 36, told him that someone broke into their home and raped her. It should come as no surprise that that someone was a Black man.

Martinez “split her own lip with a pin, scraped her knuckles with sandpaper and had her friend punch her in the face,” according to NY Daily News. According to investigators, she also urinated in her pants to give the impression that she lost control over her bladder when the “big, bad, Black man” knocked her unconscious. She also hid two laptop computers, her purse, an Xbox video game console, a camera and numerous credit cards at a friend’s house to make the robbery appear real.

“If all you wanted to do is move, there’s other ways than staging a burglary and rape,” said Sacramento police Sgt. Andrew Pettit. “She went to great lengths to make this appear real.” Martinez, her friend and two co-workers confessed the entire plan to police and charges have been filed by the Sacramento County district attorney. In an ironic twist, the couple filed for divorce six weeks after the staged rape and robbery.
