March 14th – Kool G. Rap And DJ Polo release their classic debut album “Road To The Riches” on Cold Chillin’ Records, on this day in 1989.
The album featured the underground hits “Poison” and “It’s a Demo.”
“Road To The Riches” was produced by Marley Marl.
Songs from “Road To The Riches” were also featured in the 2004 video game “Grand Theft Auto – San Andreas.”
Other titles on this hip-hop masterpiece include “Men At Work”, “Cars”, “Rhymes I Express” and “Trilogy Of Terror.”
The album’s ongoing crime-related themes were to have a major influence on Nas, Raekwon of The Wu Tang Clan, 50 Cent and Jay-Z to name a mere few.
