Amandla Stenberg is doing big things! One of her first big roles was Rue in the first Hunger Games series. There was a lot of hateful talk about her playing the role because of the people who read the book didn’t realize that Rue was black. It didn’t stop Stenberg from giving an outstanding performance. She won the Teen Choice Award for Film – Choice Chemistry with Jennifer Lawerence.

Since then, she had been on several television shows and several movies including her role in Everything, Everything which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award.  In 2016 she won the YoungStars Award at the BET Awards.

Now, her newest movie, The Hate You Give is getting a lot of notice. The movie is about a young lady named Starr. She witnessed the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend, Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressure from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right.

The Hate You Give opens in select theaters October 12th and everywhere on October 19th.

Now Stenberg is on the cover of Time Magazine!

Now that’s some black girl magic! YES!
