SHOWTIME SAYS…

Three Triangle residents were found guilty of charges relating to terrorism earlier today. After a trial that lasted for three weeks, the men were convicted of providing material support to terrorists and two of the three defendants were found guilty of conspiring to commit a “holy war” overseas.

A jury in New Bern deliberated today and came up with convictions for Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, Ziyad Yaghi and Hysen Sherifi

Three key witnesses in the prosecution’s case were Daniel Boyd and two of his sons, Dylan and Zakariya Boyd. Daniel Boyd was the reported ring leader of the organization and struck a plea agreement with prosecutors in exchange for a lighter sentence. Boyd’s sons also struck the same deal.

According to defense lawyers for the men they were merely young Muslims watching jihad videos and talking about fighting Americans on social networks.
