Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski has received Sports Illustrated’s prestigious Sportsman of the Year Award.
Earlier this season Coach K set the all-time NCAA career record for wins when Duke beat Michigan State for his 903rd career win. He shares the award with Tennessee head basketball coach Pat Summit who was named Sportswoman of the year by the magazine. Summit announced earlier this year that she was battling with the early stages of dementia. Summitt is the all time winningest coach in NCAA woman’s basketball.
The two coaches join UCLA’s John Wooden (1972) and North Carolina’s Dean Smith (1997) as the only college coaches to ever receive the honor from Sports Illustrated
