Moses Mathis, better known as the bicycle man passed away this morning after a long illness. For the past 22 years the 76-year-old Fayetteville man have collected bicycles and fixed them up to distribute at Christmas to children whose families could not afford them. In 2006, Mathis was honored by President George W. Bush with the President’s Call to Service Award, which recognizes those who have a minimum of 4,000 hours of lifetime service. His wife of 45 years said he recently returned home under hospice care after being in the hospital. Mrs. Ann Mathis said she plans to continue her husbands work.
