A nurse, Kaci Hickox, who was put under mandatory quarantine after flying into New Jersey from Ebola-affected Sierrra Leone is going home.

Hilcox came back from West Africa last week and was ordered into quarantine by NJ Governor, Chris Christie. Her temperature was taken at the airport and was initially high, but when later tested for Ebola twice, she tested negative.

This didn’t stop her from still being held in prison like conditions, according to Hilcox. Hilcox claims her, “basic human rights have been violated,” after calling in and speaking to CNN.

Initially, Governor Christie said Hilcox was “obviously ill,” and she responded on CNN, “First of all, I don’t think he’s a doctor; secondly, he’s never laid eyes on me; and thirdly, I’ve been asymptomatic since I’ve been here.”

“There always needs to be a balance, because I also want to be treated with compassion and humanity.. I don’t feel like I have been treated that way in the past three days.

NJ officials have confirmed that Hickox has been symptom-free for 24 hours and will be taken by private carrier to Maine.

I totally understand that Hilcox is upset, but when many of those who helped patients with Ebola have taken trips to other states, taken trains, taxis and continue to surround themselves around others when they may have the virus, we can understand the governor’s concern.

Do you believe that those returning from West Africa should be put under mandatory quarantine for 21 days? Take our poll.
