I don’t care how rich and famous you are, custody battles are never fun and usually end up hurting the child in the long run.

Antonio Brown is a wide receiver for the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers and is involved in an ugly court battle with the mother of his child. Earlier this week Shameika Brailsford told authorities that Brown had kidnapped their 4-year-old son Antonio Brown Jr. from Pennsylvania a few months ago. Shameika told authorities that Brown has took heir son away from her without her permission and refuses to return him to her.

Now Shameika has petitioned a Miami court for an emergency child pick up order, which means that police would have to pick up the child and return him to her home.

In a statement that was issued to TMZ, Brown’s lawyer said that Shameika agreed to let the child live with his father back in February 2011. In the statement, the lawyer also said “The mother obviously knew where the child was the entire time and, in fact, Mr. Brown recently arranged for the mother to visit with the child in Pittsburgh. This is nothing more than a classic attempt to shake down a professional athlete for money.”

I’m a strong proponent of court ordered custody agreements when two parents aren’t on the same page.  From what I can tell this is a classic case of a mother attempting to control and manipulate a situation to coincide with what she wants and not what is best for the child.

If a child was living with his father for almost a year I don’t think any type of emergency order should be issued because if she was that concerned about the well being of her child she would have took the appropriate  action  and notified authorities when the child was initially removed from the home.

Fathers please make sure you know your rights. Each state is different, but it is important to know what the legalities are when it comes to custody and visitation.  If you want to be a part of your child’s life and the mother is trying to stop you please know that you have just as much of a right to see your child as she does.  I know it gets frustrating at times, but it is a task that we sometimes have to go through to make sure we are not getting robbed of our parental rights.

Since all of this drama has started she has deleted her Twitter account, but below are some pictures of Shameika.
