Many school systems have announced closures or delays. Wake, Durham, and Cumberland County schools are all closed.

Snow that hit parts of south central North Carolina changed over to freezing rain and sleet overnight, leaving a sheet of ice on many roads and highways in the Triangle.

A slew of accidents have been reported. Officials said if you can delay starting your day today, staying off the roads is the best plan. The Triangle area saw about a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation and freezing drizzle will continue through the morning.

Some airlines at Raleigh-Durham International Airport have canceled early morning flights. Officials said as of 6 p.m. Monday, approximately 20 flights departing RDU in the early morning hours have been canceled. But, they said many flights are scheduled to depart on time, and passengers with travel plans over the next few days are encouraged to contact their airline to check the status of their flight.
